Vomit Kit (noun)
vah-mit-kit
Definition: A packet containing materials which are used to clean up vomit by covering it with a substance which allows it be picked up and disposed of easily.
Attested: I first heard this term used by my RA's at our floor meeting on my first night at Cornell.
Example: "We used a vomit kit to clean up the puke on the floor in the hallway."
Etymology: This term probably came to be used because it is the simplest way to describe its function, which is to contain everything necessary to quickly clean up vomit. These kits are probably used at other places, but Cornell is where many of us heard of these kits for the first time. At our meeting we all laughed at the concept of a vomit kit, but since that time very many of us have needed to use one, and thus this phrase has been incorporated into our everyday vocabularies and is not so funny anymore.
