ResNet (noun)
ResNet; [Reznet]
Definition: This is the service for which all people living in dormitories subscribe in order to get Internet access.
Attested: I first heard this term being used when I arrived at Cornell University and began to set up my computer along with the internet.Ý
Example: Dad, can you please speak to the people who deal with ResNet in order to get my Internet account set up before you leave.
Etymology: As far as I know, this term is only used at Cornell University.Ý I would assume it became known as ResNet because it is short for Residential Internet.Ý Because the phrase Residential Internet is relatively long and somewhat frustrating to repeat numerous times, it became shortened to ResNet.Ý The people who work at Cornell with the Internet may also have created this term because they wanted to have a creative name.

RPU
(backward "c")rpiyu
Definition: abbreviation for Robert Purcell Union, a building at Cornell that houses a mainly a dining hall, as well as a convenience store and cafÈ, among other things.
Attested: I first heard this term on August 28, 1999, here at Cornell, when looking for a place to eat.
Example: "I¼m hungry; let¼s go to RPU."
Etymology: As stated in the definition, "RPU" is an abbreviation for "Robert Purcell Union." This building was named after Robert Purcell, an alumnus who donated money to build the dining hall. As for "Union," perhaps it describes how the building is made up of many different functions that "unite;" or, the term may describe the community that uses RPU, as another attempt of Cornell to give a sense of unity or community among the students and other Cornell community members.
