U-Halls
Pronunciation: you and the second part rhymes with balls
Definition: This term is used to refer to the Class Halls on West Campus.
Attested: I first heard this term last semester when someone asked me if I lived in the U-Halls.
Usage: Hey, you know my friend Dave? He lives in a U-Hall on West.
Etymology: Originally, besides class halls, these particular dorms dedicated to certain graduated classes were also known as university halls. Over the years, students shortened it to U-Halls. The name was also shortened for another reason: to better reflect the shape of these residence halls. They are rectangular boxes, just like the Ryders, Shlepps and UHAULS!!!

Ultimate (noun)
ul'-ti-mate/ ul ta mitt/ sounds like intimate Definition: Short for "Ultimate Frisbee," this is the game of choice for many students when the weather is nice enough to play outside.
Attested: I first played Ultimate back in high school, where everyone thought the game was so stupid that our PE coach must have made it up. When I got to Cornell, though, I realized that everyone played it. I must admit, though, that I still don't like it.
Example: "C'mon down to the fields. We're gonna play Ultimate for an hour before we eat."
Etymology: Ultimate is a clipping of Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate Frisbee is like a cross between soccer and football. It is played on a field and the object is to get the Frisbee into the goal. However, when a person is holding the Frisbee, he or she cannot move. Therefore, you must throw the Frisbee to your teammates and gradually move down the field. Popular sights to play include the fields outside Donlon Hall and the Arts Quad. Beware where you step on a nice day while walking through Cornell, for you may mistakenly walk through a game of Ultimate and be smacked in the head with a Frisbee. That is just the risk we all must take for attending an Ivy League school, I guess.
