ILCer
ay (epsilon)l si r , rhymes with "I will see her"
Definition: resident of the International Living Center (ILC)
Attested: During the first week of orientation, I was welcomed as a new ILCer.
Example: "ILCers definitely know how to have fun!"
Etymology: The International Living Center is commonly known as ILC, so it was logically concluded that anyone residing in ILC is an ILCer. It was probably chosen over ILCan, because it sounds better. ILCers were given a name because, contrary to larger dorms such as Dickson, ILC is smaller and has a large sense of community. Many people are involved in the programs organized by the residents, which leads to a real feeling of togetherness.

ILR
Pronunciation: I-L-R the letters themselves.
Definition: The New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
This school teaches students a lot of practical material applicable to
the workplace. The school is mainly for people who wish to pursue law or
business careers in the future.
Attested: I first heard about ILR from a pamphlet sent to my house. Then
when I was here, I met several people from the ILR school on the first night.
Usage: Hey Joe Smith isn't a hotelie, he's in ILR!
Etymology: It would appear obvious that ILR is merely an acronym for
Industrial and Labor Relations. People did not include the first part of
the school's name probably because its inclusion would result in a
too-long name. However, I have also heard that ILR does not have
anything to do with the school's name, rather, it is an acroynm for I
Love Reading, since students in the ILR school have to read an enormous
amount.

II. ILR - "I love reading" - school (n.)
Pronunciation: I-L-R
Definition: The New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations
here at Cornell.
Attested: I first heard the "I love reading" use of the acronym in september
Usage: "Those ILR kids read alot!"
Etymology: I think people started the "I Love Reading" quib because
students (especially freshmen) in the ILR school are expected to do alot of
reading. The ILR students may have started it themselves in protest of the
enourmous amount of reading.

Ithicating
sounds like allocating
Definition: the continuous precipitation that falls here in Ithaca.
Example: "Oh look, its raining or snowing or something. Its ithicating.
Etymology: This term has come to describe the precipitation that is
unique to Ithaca. It is almost certain that every day the weather is
doing some thing other than being sunny. It is my belief that this term
came about from a blending of Ithaca's Precipitation. Look out your
window and it is probably snowing, raining, drizzling, or just being
gloomy....ithicating.

Ivy (noun)
I-V; said as though just the letters
Definition: The dining facility in Willard Straight called The Ivy Room.
Attested: I first learned of the Ivy during the first week of school
Example: "Where you wanna get lunch? Let's go Ivy."
Etymology: The term Ivy is merely a clipping of the full name The Ivy Room.
It is only a simplification to say Ivy instead of the whole name. It is called
the Ivy Room in reference to the Ivy League.
