EARS(noun)
rhymes with "beers"
Definition: a group of students at Cornell that counsels other students by listening to their problems and worries, rather than trying to give them advice
Attestation: I first hear about this program from a sophomore who was recommending that I enroll in the training program to become an EARS counselor.
Example: "I think you should go talk to an EARS counselor if you are feeling really stressed out and don't know what to do."
Etymology: EARS is short for Empathy and Referral Service. A clever student probably thought up this name for this organization. I think they used the name EARS because the group's basis is that they are there to listen to student -- really just to be another set of ears to listen to their problems rather then someone telling them what to do. I think he/she thought of the nickname first, and then figured out what EARS would stand for.

Enginerd (noun)
rhymes with heard
Definition: An engineer, usually a smart one.
Example: "Those enginerds are really dorks!"
Attested: I first heard this word uttered by a friend early in the year.
Etymology: This word is formed by combining the words "engineer" and "nerd." I think it was formed to stereotype many engineers as hard workers that get good grades, but don't go out much and have fun. Although all engineers aren't really like this, I have found that there are a few prime example of enginerds out there.

Entree (noun).
rhymes with "on tray"
Definition: a food line at the local cornell dining halls. They give you a main dish and vegetables. You can only get one entree at a time. An entree is characterized by the type of dishes the food comes in.
Attested: I first encountered this word when i went into a Cornell Dining Hall
Example: "I'm sorry, you can only have one entree."
Etymology: This word arose because the food they were serving in the dining halls were technically entrees. However, the way they served the food gave the word a whole new meaning as defined above.
